I didn't need a another tele, have an older, modded, STL-50 BSB, but my youngest son didn't have one, so got one for him. Price too good to pass on.
I put Fender Original Vintage pickups in mine, along with Fender pots, cap and switch and a GraphTech nut. Sounds just like the $1600 Fender '52 RI that I tried at GC. Better than the Fender MIM Silverburst tele may son and I tried out at GC. I have about $200 in mine with the upgrades.

Did You have to do any fret work on the neck? Like Fret End filing, high spots, or anything like that. Or does SX have that worked out pretty good now? I bought one of the older neck style Strats a couple years ago and it needed a lot of work to play. Also what would you categorize the neck Slim, medium, or thick? Thanks in advance. Terry

Great guitar with built in tube driver on a switch, that people thought was a coil splitter. The company then changed hands and built lesser guitars. They even had a cheapo they called a Stiger that was totally different. The original 200 had flamed maple all the way up the body, fretboard and headstock veneer! Hard rock maple neck into mahogany body( sculpted bolt on) and bottom lower back cutaway for the output jack. 3 x 3 headstock but with a modified strat shape and bevel. White binding on neck, abalone dots, and wood body binding. Arch top S body style, and Wilkinson style two point trem with rollers! Smoothest ever. Medium frets, not medium jumbo. It is a tie for my favorite guitar ever. What it is a tie with varies!! | | Up the Irons! |

I just bought one of the Main Street Guitar Company set-neck thinline Tele's that Will reviewed a couple of years ago.Really a killer deal [$164 with free shipping from AAA Music] on a well made and nice looking guitar.I will be modding with Duncan Custom 5/Vintage Tele stack pickups and upgraded pots/jack/switch from my parts drawer, but it's actually pretty nice stock. http://www.amazon.com/gp...r=1-1&condition=new

After a lot of shopping and reading reviews: Rondo has them all beat for teles (Furian MN BSB w/soft case 120.05 shpd) and Hawk strat styles ( I got a B stock Hawk HSS Floyd MN VW for 161.53 shpd w/hard case). The quality is equal or better than the top of the line Squiers, and very near Fender quality and sound just a little lower. N & B 6.4 Ohms and balanced well. Very effective and quiet tone control. I also got a Xaviere XV-550 semi-hollow gold top LP B-stock with slickstrap for 235 shpd. Rondo doesn't have their semi-hollow LP type for 400+ and this one is as good as or better than Epiphone top of the line (except Master series). The Crunchy PAT GFS pickups are similar to EMG-HZ SROs, B-14.12 and neck 9.99 Ohms and well balanced. Nice little split diamond inlays and MOP inlay logo. Quiet with great sustain and playability, plus high grade hardware on both brands. Both are light weight, too. Smooth even frets, on nice bound rosewood on the Goldtop, and also on the maple fretboard tele. So for quality bargain tele and strat styles it is Rondo. For LP styles and semi-hollow bodies it is Guitar Fetish Xavieres. The Harmony Central ratings agree. Rondo also has some smoking deals on neck through hot rods, too. Both came close to set up and didn't take much work to perfect them. Strings aren't bad at all. I used Dunlop string lube. | | Up the Irons! |

I'm done with this wave of fanatic purchase, & still have a few eBay items on my interest list -- have at 'em. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2808677...trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649The Pagelli I goes for maybe $350 used, with a spiffy bookmatched flame-maple top. The II goes NEW for a little under $300 (MSRP $399). This one could be yours for $149 + shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1607886...trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648The Cort MGM-1, MSRP $750, street $459. Not getting much interest yet with three days to go. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1607872...trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649A flashy Devlin double-cut LP, with Grovers, a new GFS single at the bridge, & SKB case. Priced about right at $275 -- I'd put it on the wall for $450. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007491...trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649A set-neck Badwater LP, still hasn't got $100. I've played a few of these, & they're just as chunky as a classic Gibson, albeit with the dry fingerboard & sharp fret-ends that plague the Strat-types. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1708294...trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649A strikingly customised Aria h-h Stratoclone loaded with S2N pickups, looking for a $200 opener. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2709621...trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649One-off handbuilt fretless guitar, presently up to a mere $61. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2907022...trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649Another Cort Viva, this one h-s-h but with a fully scalloped fretboard. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2210098...trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649http://www.ebay.com/itm/1108688...trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649A pair of moderately rare Austin Hatchet axes -- lord, I remember trying one of these out when it was new!! Haven't seen one since. As I recall, they all had actives; info is difficult to come by. If I had a boutique, I'd put that bass up for at least $700 after a few repairs. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2610015...trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648An unusual CMI h-s-s shorty. I'm fairly certain that's the CMI that used to own everything from Gibson to Kalamazoo. It just looks cool. Ready to go for only $122.

Impressive looking, but then that guy's work is always impressive looking. Did you notice the country? Vietnam. There is a guy there who does stuff like that (I can't think of his name...), but I've read reviews of his guitars - horror stories about fretboards peeling up, and necks and bodies coming apart - bottom line is he doesn't cure his woods properly - probably isn't able to in his climate. Whatever, I wouldn't take the risk, but it IS spectacular looking.
Anyone heard from Pootao? Is his health getting any better?

I'm pretty sure you're referring to THIS guy: http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?...n=inlaidartist&rt=ncI've been browsing Tony Tsai's stuff for a few years. I lived in Santa Fe a few years, which has been suffering a noveaux riche influx from California dot-com cashouts & second-gen Texas oil money. These people (or their decorators) might wander into a higher-end decor shop, peruse a large painting of a parlour scene, & say something like "that's nice, but could I get it with that table on the other side, & chair blue instead of brown?" & think nothing of paying $4,600 on the spot, taking delivery in 45 days. (I was doing the shop's bookkeeping at the time, & that's pretty much the notation on the bill of sale.) If they wanted to do a grouping of showy instruments, people like that wouldn't BLINK at inlaidartist's prices. This kinda affects my take on eye-candy guitars. Bidding can get pretty fierce, 20-30 bids or more, even with the high shipping costs (comparable to getting a Tokai or Burny from Tokyo). They do come up with some offbeat stuff; I've been enjoying the look of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HIGH-QU...&hash=item519f2ccf0fhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/ROSE-IN...&hash=item519f0a7585It's difficult to locate an Epi Mandobird in anything but sunburst...
