This may be old news, but I just happened to stop by the guitarfetish site yesterday and noticed a new line of 3 different basses. I've been wondering when they would get into that, figuring that the gating factor would be the creation of decent pickups. The descriptions look good, and the specs seem to be a notch above the SX and Douglas offerings.

I don't suppose anyone here has any experience with any of these three instruments yet?

I also noticed some acoustics, with prices that seemed way to low for the features listed, but that is for another thread.

I looked at these last night. I really love the sound and looks of Cedar topped acoustics. I'm really thinking about one of these or possibly a Washburn hear at one of the local guitar shops.

I was disappointed there weren't any 5 string basses. I love the feel of the Fender Jazz bass necks though. They work for me, and I wonder about these Xaviere necks.

I took a look! VERY nice those basses! Venerable Fender P and J style basses + more contemporary styles with actives!
Those necks look pretty solid!

That headstock i dare say if you took to it with a file and some sandpaper, you could GET the Fender headtock shape out of it pretty easily!

And those Acoustics, lovely! The abalone binding and everything!

Very, VERY nice!

GOOD addition on GFS part!

I have a weakness for offbeat guitars, & some of these new Xavieres are just... well, howdy. Wub Particularly, that nice spruce-top dreadnought with unfinished maple fretboard, for $169. But also contending for my affections is the cedar-top bubinga, cutaway, with pickup -- I've been wanting to own a cedar for a few years, as they're ideal for lighter strings & get a sweeter ring than the typical spruce -- for a mere $199.

The clone basses look good, & the price is certainly excellent, but what really grabs my attention is the DLX models. I'm still a big fan of the Washburn XB-400, & the XB line has been replaced with the neck-thru Force -- while these are an excellent deal with a $549 street price, I like the idea of being able to obtain a near-copy of the bolt-neck XB for a mere $229 new (used XB-400s tend to go in the $150-$250 range).

It'd be great if GFS could do more lateral expansion, with left-handed instruments & 5-string basses. The somewhat rare Washburn XB-600 six-string goes for $400-$500, & I'd be a little tempted, so...Anxious

I'd be stunned if GFS (or SX for that matter) strayed very far from the classic Jazz Bazz neck shape. That seems much more critical to the lineage than the body shape. But it is worth asking, I suppose.

I also noticed that the DLX basses have what they characterize as MusicMan-like pickups. That would really be something, as the MM basses were a great new flavor of bass sound, and just seem to have lost traction in the mainstream.

I'm OK with 4-string-only offerings for the time being, as I find myself surrounded by 5's and 6's in recent years, and I find that I'm 'visiting' the B string almost out of duty to use it because I paid for it, not because it really fits into my music as well as I'd hoped it would. So I could be happy de-evolving into a 4-string again for a while.

Speaking of which, I just missed a 2000 De Armond Pro IV bass with a natural finish on Ebay a few days ago. It went for a shocking $121 including shipping, which is about $150 less than I expected. So sad for me. (I just forgot to check the auction the day it ended, so didn't see that it was still shockingly cheap, and therefore didn't bid.)

The D-A basses are basically better-built versions of old Guild Pilot basses with better pickups. Some of my all-time favorites.
