I did some trading and ended up with a nice ATA case that is 34"x20x7" and empty. No carpet, no foam padding. It had been used for a pedalboard with the a home-made board living in the tray part of the case, as most boards are used in road cases. I want to put a pedalboard with rubber feet in it, but I need to put something in the bottom of the tray to raise it up, so that the lip of the tray won't get in the way of operating the pedals, So, I think I need about an inch or so to fill. I have read where some people get a piece of MDF and cut it to fit and velcro or glue it to the inside of the tray and then put their pedalboard platform contraption on top of that with velcrop. I think using 1" MDF would weight too much. So, I was thinking of really high density foarm and a thin piece of board over the form, then secure my pedal platform contraption to the thinner board, so it is level and even. What do you guys think about high density foam? If you get rigid enough, I don't think it would squish about too much, but I don't know.

How would one of you handymen do it?

I also thought of glueing case carpet into the tray and then using some lesser thickness wood. I am just concerned about the weight and how steady it will be for the pedal platform once loaded with pedals, I don't want to to be soo heavy that it isn't a practical way to go. I know the case is huge for pedals, but I basically got it for nothing, and would like to make good use of it.

I have considered a LYT pedalboard, which is very thin and has a tier attached to it. It looks cool. The other things is a board with rubber feet and a few port holes to run cables. Any way I go, I can get the board material or a premade board for under $80 for the LYT board or about $50 for a Safecase pedal platform that they use in their cases. I have attached a both of those examples. Please sound off on how you would raise either of these two boards to get beyond the tray lip.

Thanks in advance.. This is where I kind of fall on my face, though i did repaint the metal grill on my 4x12 Peavey cab today, and it came out silver metalic and looks a lot cleaner and not a ragged.. I am happy about that.

Here are the two picts. Calling out to the craftsmen... help.. Hellllpppp... lol

Off the top of my head, I think I'd build it from a thin bit of paneling or something like 1/8 inch thick, or some plexiglass (perspex if you're in the UK). I'd make legs out of a nice thick dowel rod all cut to the same length and screwed to the board surface... It's a tough call, because it would depend on what I had readily available. Other materials that might work on a frugal side would be sheet metal (fairly cheap at your local dealer, or you might be able to find a metal shelf that would be the right size) I CERTAINLY wouldn't go with an MDF or heavy board, and I doubt I'd go with a full foam insert either.
