Looks like Epiphone has changed the spec on the ES-339 Pro from the Probuckers to Alnico Pro pickups and a bunch of online shops have lowered the price by $100. I've got an email in to Epiphone to see which my guitar is loaded with, I'll post when/if I get a response.

What is the differece in a Probucker and a Alnico Pro?
Sounds like they should be pretty close?

According to this chart, the Alnico Classic Pro is described as having slightly less output than the Probuckers. Also, the Probucker-3 birdge pup has uneven wound coils. All are Alnico-II though. They also mention the following in the marketing for the Probuckers:

Quote:
Epiphone's ProBuckers™ feature authentic 18% nickel silver base and cover, Elektrisola wire, accurate bobbins, slugs and screws and sand casted Alnico-II magnets to give you that classic "Patent Applied For" airy tone that defines rock and roll

Sounds like they are using good Parts.
Only thing I saw cork sniffers would want is, where are the Maple hardwood spacers?
The important thing, is you want a nickel baseplate and good quality wire.
Elektrisola is very good, and if you use a cover make sure it is nickel, and it has no Brass.
I have trouble getting a 8k+ Neck pickup to keep from being muddy on the big strings.
For my own guitars, I stay around 7k, no higher than 7.3k on Neck Humbuckers.
Good Luck,
Terry

What difference does brass have over nickel or steel covers Tez? Kills treble response?
