I couldn't find this site when I wanted it, & tripped into it while looking for something else entirely:

I've passed up a few busted G-K amps because they can often have components that're, well, unique.Cursing For years, I've been tempted to buy a 250ML, sometimes caled "the Lunchbox of God" by fans, being a very small box with two 4.5" speaker, pushing out 100w stereo, built-in echo & chorus, & the main amp for many years of Alex Lifeson.ThumpUp What's not to love?

Problem is, those teeny speakers were made ONLY for two G-K products. While they withstand abuse for a LONG time, the foam edges do eventually break down, & it's not unusual to find a 250ML with dead coils.

So imagine my delight:

And they confirm what I'd heard:
Quote:
This speaker is specifically desined for the 250ML and MLE-206. It is not intended as a replacement for any other cabinet or amplifier.

(Whether the speakers are 4.5" or 6.5" is starting to bug me. Really, the measurement SHOULD be the diameter of the hole it fits into...)

Dead, these amps tend to go for $100 or less. Working & with half-decent looks, $300+ isn't unusual. Nothing that'd make ya rich, but certainly not a money-loser.

And not that it NEEDS internal speakers. While I can attest that a close-range 250ML will LITERALLY blow your hair back -- someone had turned off with the gain cranked up -- many players since initial release have used it as a driver to big external cabs. This was probably the first time I saw a small combo dual-purposed as both a head (gigs) & a combo (practice, recording, & small gigs).

The separate head is the 250RL. If you see either, definitely take it for a ride!! The "Mark II" versions had more plug-out options, but (naturally) some players swear the original sounds better. For a solid-state amp, you'll be surprised at the excellent breakup tone when pushed -- yeah, think Lifeson, & it seems Nuno Bettencourt's recorded with one as well.

Oh, & if you want a hard-to find bass OD, check the price on the Diesel Dawg:

These (discontinued) tend to go for $200+ when you can find 'em at all.
