Got a L6 M5 stomp box modeler recently.
Got it locally as it was free postage.

Found a few on ebay for under $200 but by the time you added shipping i saved @ most, A$20!

Hardly worth it.

Still it's in my pedal board, and for an effect in place, it's not bad at all.

The reverbs esp the '63 spring and standard spring are lovely as are the hall settings.

Most of the delays and filters are great.
Chorus/flange/phaser all work nice and go real close to their Boss, mxr, dunlop etc name/sound sakes.

(& these are what i got it for, mostly reverbs and some flange/phasing etc.)

WHERE it gets let down seriously is their gain emulations.

Sorry but they all sound pretty nasty!

Even the TS style o/ds are harsh and sterile sounding, no warmth.
A couple of the fuzzes were quite nice, but frankly all the o/d's & dists sucked! HARD!

As a unit its pretty easy to use, once you go thru the setup routine, controls are a no-brainer really, the read outs very handy and indicative of all parameter levels.

A good unit for those who just want an odd pedal sound for here and there.
For all non gain related FX, it excels and I give it a 9.5 for its range and usability, for the gain, I'd give it no more than 4.

Overall it gets an 8 from me. Had the gain effects been much nicer, I might have nearly nudged a 10, but sadly this isn't going to happen!

As long as you DONT really want it for distortion pedal sounds, I highly recommend it.
(Esp for modulation & delay effects)

If you do, there are other multi FX boxes that can do a better job!

I've been a Line 6 hater for a decade and mostly still am except for some good sounds I've heard from the HD 500. But some say they are a tweakin nightmare sometimes.
Next time you are at a music shop try some Digitech RPs, you might like those distortions and effects. The DNA2 processor generation is pretty good.
They all sound alike but different models offer more options.
Zoom may be worth a listen too.

I've got an HD and don't care for the vast majority of the OD/Dist effects with the exception of the Tube Driver and Screamer (fuzzes I find very good, but am not much of a fuzz player). I think Digitech does a much better job of sounding like the actual dirt boxes being modeled. Line 6 gear tends to have a high frequency focus which can be difficult with some target systems. If you have a real warm sounding amp, the pairing could be a Godly. A brighter, chimier amp? I'd look elsewhere.

Cheers Steve, I HAVE a Digitech RP155 but found it too cumbersome to use. YES its dirt box and amp emulations are VERY good! But the up/down nudge buttons to find a preset i found too laborious to use live, and actually hitting both pedals at once to bypass the effect, too hit & miss!
(So I keep it as a recording tool pretty much)

But I find the M5 far more tweakable on the fly as its just LIKE a phsyical pedal, so I can put it on and off @ will and change settings as needed with a twist of a dial.

For that, its great. The reverbs sound great thru the FX loop of my HT-5!
