Anyone been watching for these? Looks like they're just starting to pop up on ebay. PTP wired 6 watt tube amp w/ switchable gain boost 1/2 power switch. I liked their Classic 6 and this hopefully expands on that design (yet somehow at nearly 1/2 the price). If I had any scratch right now I'd grab one, VHT can't even provide a loaner for review as they can't fill their initial orders... |

Have you gotten to try one? I know these aren't the "real" VHT amps... those are now marketed under the Fryette brand... These are made by AXL... to they hold up?

Well, the name was attained legally so these are in fact the "real" VHT amps as no other currently made amp bears the VHT brand. So far so good. I've got a few questions for the designer which I should be talking to this week and then the review will be up. |

I was prowling for more info, & kept getting some rather pricey prices. So I rewrote my Google search, & finally found something more reasonable. Rich's Music Exchange has the head for $180 & the combo for $200, with free shipping, albeit they're backordered: https://richsmusicexchange.com/p...ecial-6-combo-19999.aspxThe point-to-point boarded wiring is, I admit, kinda intriguing. |
All a writer really needs is a blank page and a bad attitude. |

Well, VHT has 2 amps with very similiar names. The Classic 6 which is in the $400 range and the new Special 6 which is under $200. Per The Music Link, distributor for AXL, VHT, and a bunch of other stuff the demand from dealers exceed their supply so they will likely be a bit hard to find for a few months... |

Sorry.. meant no offense by the "real" comment. I understand AXL acquired the name through proper legal means, however, when VHT was under Freyette's control, the products (though dramatically more expensive) were manufactured in the US. I'm suffering from seriously conflicting issues: the desire to have a quality tube amplifier manufactured in the USA versus my personal income. I've recently read several reviews recently that paint this amp glowingly, and would like to give them a try, but the only place they're sold in Florida is over 400 miles away. I also can't seem to find many online dealers with fair return policies selling this one. Any ideas? Edited by user Friday, April 09, 2010 4:00:19 PM(UTC)

The amp is indeed a winner in my book, I should be able to get the review up this week. The only advice I can give is simply to be patient. Early supply is limited and I would expect them to become much more available in th4e coming months. |

Dr Demento wrote:I really want to try one of these out. How heavy will it get? if I had to judge based on a spec sheet it could get as heavy as hard rock . . .and like a lot of tube amps I've seen come out I'm unsure of it's ability to do modern variations on metal as that usually requires more gain than the majority of guitarists would want or need. if you pushed the front end with something that could allow some measure of EQ as well as enough gain to choke a horse then you're going to be much better off. I have the same problem with my peavey windsor studio. it does what it was intended to (sound marshall ish) and does it perfectly. it just doesn't have the bass response or gain necessary to get anything beyond, say black sabbath/iron maiden type tones without something pushing the front end with something that has a lot of gain as well as being able to dial in a flatter frequency response
