I recently purchased a Silver Creek D-170 from Musician's Friend. It retails for $399, but being the frugal guitarist that I am, I purchased it at less than half price due to it needing repair. It had a bad tuner. Figuring I could repair that, I placed the order. I ordered a set of Vintage Nickel Gibson Style tuners from guitarfetish.com and found them to be a perfect fit with the original holes. I also replaced the original saddle with a compensated tusq saddle, put new strings on it, and wow, does it sound good. It is all solid wood, with a sitka spruce top, rosewood back and sides, and a mahogany neck. The only finish problem I noticed was a bit of glue sqeeze-out at the end of the fretboard near the soundhole. I did lower the saddle a bit, but that is certainly a personal preference, as the guitar was playable out of the box. I would recommend this to anyone who wants an all solid, rosewood/spruce dreadnought, but doesn't want to spend what a Martin costs. A Martin D-28 it is not, but for 1/10th the price, it is darned close.
