I recently purchased a Silver Creek D-170 from Musician's Friend. It retails for $399, but being the frugal guitarist that I am, I purchased it at less than half price due to it needing repair. It had a bad tuner. Figuring I could repair that, I placed the order. I ordered a set of Vintage Nickel Gibson Style tuners from guitarfetish.com and found them to be a perfect fit with the original holes. I also replaced the original saddle with a compensated tusq saddle, put new strings on it, and wow, does it sound good. It is all solid wood, with a sitka spruce top, rosewood back and sides, and a mahogany neck. The only finish problem I noticed was a bit of glue sqeeze-out at the end of the fretboard near the soundhole. I did lower the saddle a bit, but that is certainly a personal preference, as the guitar was playable out of the box. I would recommend this to anyone who wants an all solid, rosewood/spruce dreadnought, but doesn't want to spend what a Martin costs. A Martin D-28 it is not, but for 1/10th the price, it is darned close.

I have the small body rosewood silvercreek. IT looks good and plays well. Its only flaw you can see of feel is a bang or gouge diaganally across the frets from around 15 to 17. Just a touch with the file and it should be fine. So far mine hasn't impressed me. I specifically bought this knowing it was likely against what I suspect I generally like. I'm a dread mahogany guy usually. I like more deep even bass. It feels and sounds rich to me and rosewood is usually too bright for me and making the guitar smaller didn't help anything. Its hard for me to rate the sound quality as its so different from my standard. At a simple level Id say my old $100 sigma laminated dread sounds much "better". But I bough this to see if I could learn to like this sound. I need to spend a bit of time at GC and compare this to another OO rosewood like a martin to get a real rating. I did play a similar Martin for a few min and it may have been pretty close to the SC but I need more time.
