Last week I recorded this 2007 show off-air:

There are various excerpts on YouTube:

I've never really liked Beck's studio albums much, but I am totally fascinated with this show. It's a total treat to watch both Beck & Tal Wilkenfeld, a terribly cute little girl who also happens to be a devastating bassist. (Here's Wilkenfeld in a bass-heavy jam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...rAp0&feature=related)

Beck has evolved a pickless style, using primarily his thumb, but also relying heavily on the vibrato arm & forever rolling his Strat's volume knob with his fourth finger. While quite capable of turning out some seriously eye-watering shred, he usually plays with the laid-back ease of a virtuoso.

In this age of fancy effects & down-tuned madness, Beck gets some incredible music out of a plain-looking s-s-s Strat -- the vibrato arm is custom-bent & there's an odd-looking nut, but otherwise it looks like a totally stock bolt-on Fender. And Wilkenfeld, though standing in front of an impressive amp, plays a four-string bass.

The only downer is that there are entirely too many changes of camera angle, apparently trying to make the gig "exciting" for non-guitarists. Aside from that, I highly recommend it for guitarists & bassists.

I've seen the show. It's great.

I am a long-time Jeff Beck fan (Yardbirds, Jeff Beck Group, solo work). He can play a little bit of everything.

My understanding on his guitar is that he has a chunky neck and a roller nut. I think the pickups are more or less stock for his signature model. He may have changed them up a little. I read where he likes to turn the treble all the way up on his amps (usually 50-watt marshalls, but he does use fenders at times). His guitar tech sets up his vibrato (which I believe is pretty well stock) to be pretty loose. That's the way Beck likes it. He's known to use a proco rat pedal but not a lot of other effects.

I also play without a pick, but nowhere near as well as Beck. I heard Beck say he has to get his fingers (notably his thumb) in shape prior to going on tour.
